Hecla bears are VERY rare and sought after, and are definitely high quality, much like the Steiff, in fact they are often difficult to tell apart. The main distinguishing feature is the ears, which in the Hecla are set wide apart, more in accordance with the American style. They have rust-colored noses and claws and close-set eyes made of glass with brown and black colored painted backs. They have a back hump and long limbs, although the limbs are set quite high on the shoulders. They have large rounded feet. This particular teddy is in wonderful condition. He is totally original, with the exception of three little paw pad patches, very well done, some mohair thinning on his left arm, around the bottoms of his feet where the claws are and on the left hind leg joint. The mohair is about 95% perfect in every other way. It is soft and lush. Also, there are two loose claw stitches on the left front paw. This marvelous teddy has precious expression and is likely the most gorgeous example of the Hecla that you will find. I have done my best to describe this teddy in great detail and accurately.
